Job Description
For IBM hardware installation and configuration:
• Have an understanding of IBM mainframes, enterprise class I/O device operation and their hardware physical layouts.
• Familiarity with IBM HMC architecture and their configuration and operation with IBM mainframe hardware.
• A detailed knowledge of IBM Ficon channel configuration, operations
• An in-depth knowledge of IBM virtual tape operation along with IBM Virtual tape grid concepts. –
• Knowledge of IBM mainframe OSA adapters and a basic knowledge of TCPIP and networking practices.
• Create Ficon and OSA cabling diagrams for AmEx DCI staff to use in cabling up mainframe infrastructure.
• Provide Ficon port layout information to IBM Configuration management for their use in creating the IOCD’S.
• Create RFC’s (Changes) for hardware installs, upgrades and removals as needed.-
• Work with AmEx facilities and DCI staff to receive and place hardware on the raised floor.
• Update IBM’s CMDB asset tracking database with information on local assets.
For incident, change control and problem tracking:
• Be familiar with a change and incident management tracking system ( AmEx uses ServiceNow).
• When on call be prepared to logon and accept an incident within 15 -30 min. During onsite shift hour
• Join AmEx emergency bridge calls as needed to help determine system operation issues and help resolve operational issues.
• For channel interface errors be able to diagnose which device or CPU path is having issues by examining system path and device messages.
• Work with mainframe operations to place paths and or devices offline/ online as needed to stabilize system operation.
• Using CPU and Ficon directors logs and test output determine where the problem lies, create a change and schedule –
• IBM service and AmEx DCI staff to make the repairs.
• Work with service personnel when equipment has issues and calls home to open changes and schedule service.
